In an ambitious feat that exemplifies the power of resilience, collaboration, and forward-thinking, Ambuja Cements has recently completed Asia's largest legacy SAP to SOH upgrade transformation—a landmark accomplishment that positions our Cement Business as a digital pioneer within the Adani Group. This remarkable endeavour, undertaken amidst considerable challenges, has set a new benchmark in operational excellence, supporting Ambuja Cements’ proactive approach to stability, innovation, and enhanced operational efficiency.

Ambuja Cements’ achievement has attracted widespread recognition, with Microsoft even developing a case study to highlight the project’s scale, innovation, and success. This accomplishment not only reinforces Ambuja Cements’ leadership in digital transformation but also reflects the Company’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in operational performance, sustainability, and future readiness.

Migration of SAP Suite to Azure, alongside an expedited upgrade to SAP Suite on HANA, has granted Ambuja Cements a robust, modernised digital foundation, ensuring uninterrupted operations in a dynamic market environment. This journey to a seamless digital future saw Ambuja Cements completing a transition originally scoped for a nine-month timeline in an unprecedented six weeks. At the heart of this success was the cohesive drive of cross-functional teams, working closely with IBM to ensure this transformation project met the Company’s high standards of excellence.

Ajay Kapur, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group said, “We are glad to have completed this monumental task in record time. SAP plays a key role as the nerve centre of our Cement Business operations. Even in the face of significant challenges during this data migration, our teams have displayed exceptional dedication and leveraged their collective expertise to overcome them. This highlights our commitment to operational excellence, as well as our adherence to the latest in digital innovation.”

To safeguard this monumental transition, Ambuja Cements implemented a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan (BCP) with a disaster recovery (DR) environment, underscoring the company’s commitment to minimising operational disruptions. A tactical approach to project timelines, with work scheduled during off-peak hours, ensured that cement and concrete dispatches continued smoothly—a testament to Ambuja’s relentless focus on operational integrity and its dedication to meeting customer demands without compromise.

The scale and speed of this SAP transformation have further facilitated the rapid integration of Ambuja Cements' recent acquisitions, Sanghi Industries Ltd, Asian Fine Cements Pvt Ltd, and Asian Concretes and Cements Pvt Ltd, seamlessly bringing these entities onto Adani Group’s suite of applications. Legacy SAP systems were retired immediately on Day 1 of operations, marking a unified transition under the Adani Group’s digital landscape. Cutting-edge technologies like Digital Signatures are also being introduced, streamlining processes and enhancing operational agility.

Even in the face of significant challenges during this data migration, our teams have displayed exceptional dedication and leveraged their collective expertise to overcome them. This highlights our commitment to operational excellence, as well as our adherence to the latest in digital innovation.”
