One of the major reasons which has catapulted Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences (GAIMS) to a path of prominence is the success of its students, who are now spread across the globe. It is a testament to the institute's excellence.

Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences (GAIMS), the only Medical College of the district and testament of Medical Education in the region has embarked on a transformative journey, establishing itself as a beacon of medical education and research. GAIMS has grown from a visionary project into a distinguished institution, renowned for its state-of-the-art infrastructure and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
How It All Began
In 2008, the Adani Group submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Government of Gujarat for instituting a medical college at Bhuj and an application was submitted to the Central Government for the same. In 2009, the Special Government Resolution was passed by the Government of Gujarat for handing over GK General Hospital, Bhuj to GAIMS for 99 years on lease, and the committee was constituted. GAIMS received a go-ahead from the Central Government to start a medical college with an intake of 150 MBBS seats from the academic year 2009-10. Over a decade and half, this learning legacy has surpassed major milestones during this journey.

Leading Legacy Of Learning
GAIMS established MD/MS Post Graduate Medical courses in the year 2014. It is remarkable growth journey reflects from admissions of 7 PG Students in 2016 to 87 PG Students in 2023. Today, GAIMS has 88 PG seats in 17 specialties and 12 more to be added in academic year 2024-25. The institute offers MD/MS degrees in the clinical specialties like General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Respiratory Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology (DVL) and Emergency Medicine, Para-Clinical branches like Microbiology, Pathology, and Pre-Clinical Branches like Anatomy and Physiology. GAIMS campus is gleaming with around 1000 Medical Students.
GAIMS also provides 3 post graduate paramedical courses under School of Allied Health Science (SAHS) strengthening the quality patient care: Diplomas in Medical Laboratory Technician, Radio Imaging Technology, Renel Dialysis Technology. Two more courses-- Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology and Diploma in Clinical Dietetics are proposed for the forthcoming academic year.
More than 200 expert faculty members render their relentless services at the institute strengthening path to academic and clinical excellence. The institute's commitment to provide top-notch infrastructure is evident in its 5 smart classrooms, multiple demonstration rooms, 750+ seater auditorium and audio-visual dissection hall facilitating modernised learning experience. From cutting-edge laboratories, well maintained museums to a comprehensive library and comfortable residential quarters, every aspect of GAIMS is designed to foster a conducive learning environment.
GAIMS Skills Lab is equipped with over 70 basics and advanced level mannequins enabling simulated training for UG/PG students and nursing staff.
GAIMS Journal of Medical Sciences (GJMS), an official publication of Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences chartered in 2021 is an indexed, open access, peer-reviewed journal with aim of publishing and disseminating high quality original research in all broad specialties of Medical Science. GAIMS is the first medical college in Gujarat to have uniform scrubs for UG students, intern doctors and PG resident doctors. The uniform establishes equality among students from all strata and reinforces institutional identity, better patient safety and infection control.

Dr Rushi Rabari (MBBS, MD, DM), a distinguished former student, President of Junior Doctor’s Association of GAIMS of PG Batch 2017 and the first DM Pulmonologist of Gujarat, reflects on his time at GAIMS: “My tenure at the Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Science (GAIMS) from 2017 to 2020 was a defining period in my life. Through the MD Pulmonary Medicine program, I gained not only medical knowledge but also a deep-seated commitment to patient care. The nurturing environment at GAIMS, with its dedicated mentors and collaborative peers, provided the perfect backdrop for my growth. The experiences, challenges, and relationships forged during my time there have left an indelible mark on my journey, driving my passion for excellence and my desire to contribute positively to the medical community.”
Dr Chandni Joshi (MBBS, MS, MCh) from MBBS Batch 2009 is testament of academic excellence. Gold medalist both in MBBS (Pediatrics & General Medicine) as well as MS General Surgery, she has accomplished MCh in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery followed by various prestigious fellowships in India and overseas. She holds the honour of being second female Plastic Surgeons of Gujarat. “GAIMS has played a pivotal role in shaping my journey as a Plastic Surgeon. It provided me with foundational knowledge and practical skills. My professors have not only imparted me with medical knowledge but also instilled professional values, ethics, and attitude essential for practicing medicine with integrity and compassion. Overall GAIMS lays foundation for my lifelong journey of learning, growth, and service to others,” she shares.
Dr Richa Ainani Ahluwalia (MBBS, MS, DRM, FMAS), the first President of GAIMS Student Council of MBBS Batch 2009 and gold medalist of her Batch is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Infertility Specialist, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon based at Jaipur. She cherishes her MBBS tenure at GAIMS.
“My journey towards becoming a successful fertility specialist was profoundly influenced by my time at GAIMS. The strong educational foundation was pivotal in shaping my expertise and confidence in the field of fertility treatment. Beyond academics, my role as the President of the Student Council played a crucial role in my overall development. Leading a diverse group of students and coordinating various initiatives helped me cultivate essential leadership and team-building skills. This experience also enhanced my communication and interpersonal skills, enabling me to connect with patients on a deeper level. The blend of medical knowledge and leadership experience from GAIMS has been instrumental in my professional success and growth as a compassionate and effective fertility specialist,” she says.
Dr Hardik Desai (MBBS) is an exceptional past student of GAIMS with extraordinary achievements in the arena of Global Healthcare Research. An MBBS from Batch 2013 is a Clinician Scientist, Evidence Based Medicine and Public Health Research and recipient of the Kidney Stars Award twice from the American Society of Nephrology in 2016 (Chicago) and 2017 (New Orleans), USA, respectively. In addition to extensive experience of Research Publication and Peer Reviewing, his recent achievements include receiving Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award American Heart Association- Hypertension 2023 Boston, USA and the same for Vascular Medicine 2024 Chicago, USA. (India and Pakistan). He expresses gratitude towards GAIMS for nurturing his potential during Medical Studies,

Dr Prayag Dave (MBBS) from 2016 has his unique journey of Music, Medicine, and Military Services. As a student whether he was studying complex medical texts or performing soulful melodies, his dedication to both fields was unwavering. After MBBS, he got selected as Class 1 gazetted officer (Medical Officer) ‘Assistant Commandant’ Rank in Assam Rifles. He speaks about the profound impact the nurturing environment of GAIMS has made in his journey, “GAIMS has played an invaluable role in shaping my personal and professional journey. It is here that I discovered my passion and built the foundations of a lifelong commitment to healthcare system. The education and experiences I gained here continue to guide me while serving in the farthest villages of India.”
