Adani Solar, the photovoltaic manufacturing and research arm of the Adani Group, has set a new benchmark by commissioning India's first ingot and wafer (I&W) manufacturing facility of 2 GW capacity at Mundra, Gujarat.

The achievement is a testament to Adani Solar's vision, grit, and determination to make India energy self-reliant and sustainable nation. Adani Solar is now the unrivaled vertically integrated solar PV manufacturer in India with an operational 4 GW cell and module, and 2 GW ingot and wafer. These indigenous ingots and wafers are essential raw materials used for making solar cells and PV modules.

Spread across 12 acres, the ingot and wafer plant are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment that can produce large sized monocrystalline ingot and different sizes of wafer, including M10-182mm and G12-210mm. There are also plans to produce wafers with a thinness of 130 microns. The company is investing in R&D to produce wafers thinner than 100 microns, making it future-ready for upcoming technologies. Additionally, Adani Solar will be creating over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs from this expansion. Before commissioning this plant, Adani Solar kickstarted the manufacturing large sized ingots & wafers from its pilot manufacturing line for more than a year.

Adani Solar has been at the forefront of adopting technology to increase efficiency and yield, design optimisation, alternative materials’ adoption and automation of processes. It uses artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and platforms to identify real-time actionable insights. Its pioneering initiatives include introducing PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact) cell technology, bifacial modules, frameless modules, and the recent TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) cell technology in India.

Adani Solar has built an electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC), spanning an area of 800 acres in Mundra, to establish a one-of-its-kind fully integrated and comprehensive solar manufacturing ecosystem for giga-scale manufacturing of the solar value-chain and critical components, including solar glass, aluminum frames, encapsulants and back-sheets.
