The Adani Skill Development Centre (ASDC) is spearheading an inspiring initiative to empower communities and shape a brighter future for both India and Tanzania. Officially launched on 16 Oct 2024, this program aims to develop a skilled workforce in three vital sectors. Tanzanian students are currently participating in an immersive 90-day residential training program at Krishnapatnam Port, reinforcing our dedication to skill enhancement and fostering international collaboration.
"Inspired by the vision of Chairman Gautam Adani, and the Chairperson of Adani Foundation, Dr Priti Adani, we believe that true progress comes from uplifting communities through education and skill development," said Ashwani Gupta, CEO of Adani Ports & SEZ, who participated in the launch event virtually. He added that this initiative is a significant step towards fostering economic growth and creating a skilled workforce for a brighter future.
Adani Ports and SEZ is not just creating jobs but also crafting careers, fostering learning, and shaping the workforce of tomorrow. This initiative is designed to cultivate a cadre of experts in three critical areas.
RTG Cranes
Imagine a giant, tire-clad behemoth gliding effortlessly across a bustling port. This is the Rubber Tyre Gantry Crane (RTG crane), a marvel of modern engineering that epitomises mobility and efficiency. Unlike its rail-bound counterparts, the RTG crane roams freely, accessing multiple container stacks and optimising space with unparalleled flexibility. These cranes are the unsung heroes of container terminals, operating on various surfaces without the need for extensive infrastructure. Their high-speed operations ensure quick loading and unloading, making them indispensable in the fast-paced world of global trade. Moreover, the advent of hybrid and electric power systems has rendered RTG cranes environmentally friendly, reducing emissions and promoting sustainability. With the ability to lift heavy containers and stack them up to six high, RTG cranes are the backbone of efficient and flexible container handling in ports and intermodal facilities.
Heavy Motor Vehicle Driving
Heavy motor vehicle driving is an art that involves operating large vehicles designed for transporting goods or passengers. This includes trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles. The journey begins with understanding the types of heavy vehicles, from light-duty to heavy-duty trucks, buses of various sizes, and trailers coupled with trucks for larger loads. Obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a crucial step, often requiring passing written and practical tests. Additional endorsements may be needed for transporting hazardous materials or operating specific types of vehicles. Safety is paramount, with pre-trip inspections, defensive driving, and load security being essential practices. Driving techniques for heavy vehicles involve mastering wide turns, careful maneuvering, and understanding braking systems. Adapting to weather conditions is also crucial for safety. Modern technology, such as GPS and telematics, aids in route planning and monitoring vehicle performance. Advanced safety features like anti-lock brakes and collision avoidance systems further enhance safety. Maintaining physical fitness and managing fatigue are important aspects of a driver's well-being. Fuel efficiency practices and compliance with emissions standards contribute to reducing environmental impact. Continuous education and training are vital for maintaining proficiency and adapting to new technologies and regulations.
Marine Engineering: Navigating the Depths
This program is a voyage into the heart of maritime technology, offering hands-on exploration of key topics such as marine engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and the critical alignment of rotational equipment. Participants will gain a profound understanding of marine propulsion systems, learning to overhaul engines from scratch and optimise performance. The course also delves into the essential hydraulic systems that power marine machinery, providing insights into their components and troubleshooting techniques. Mastering the fundamentals of fluid dynamics, students will learn to select, maintain, and troubleshoot pumps and heat exchangers, ensuring effective fluid transfer and temperature regulation. The importance of precise alignment in preventing wear and ensuring machinery longevity is also emphasised, equipping participants with practical skills in alignment techniques. The program stands out for its hands-on experience, expert instructors, and focus on career advancement. It is ideal for marine engineering students, technicians, and professionals seeking to enhance their expertise and stay current with industry standards.
By providing world-class training and fostering a culture of continuous learning, ASDC aims to shape the future of India's and Tanzania's workforce. Through initiatives like the new Skill Development program at Krishnapatnam, Adani Ports & SEZ is not only contributing to economic growth but also uplifting communities and creating a brighter, more skilled future. According to industry observers, the allure for port-related investment in Tanzania largely stems from its gateway access to volumes moving in and out of the six land-locked countries of Malawi, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda.
Adani International Ports Holdings Pte Ltd (AIPH), a wholly owned subsidiary of APSEZ, has signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Tanzania Ports Authority to operate and manage Container Terminal 2 at the Dar es Salaam Port, Tanzania. Dar es Salaam Port is a gateway port with a well-connected network of roadways and railways, further enhancing the economic ties between India and Tanzania.
This initiative not only highlights the importance of skill development but also emphasises the role of international cooperation in driving economic growth and creating a skilled workforce for the future.
