EXHIBITION

Bold Burst Of Colours

Delve into the ‘Rangeen’ art exhibition by Anup Shrivastava, which vividly captures the colours, culture and spirit of festivals in central India.

Arpita Vadgama

Rangeen, an extraordinary art exhibition at the Kanoria Arts Centre in Ahmedabad, draws profound inspiration from the stunning landscapes and rich tribal traditions of Anup Shrivastava's homeland in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. Through his dedicated work, he captures and interprets the vibrant essence of the Bhagoria festival, celebrated just before Holi, alongside other captivating events from the indigenous communities of the Malwa region. This exhibition invites you to experience the beauty and diversity of these cultural celebrations.

Using acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, Mr Shrivastava’s works captures the spirit of Indian melas. Through his eyes, trivial moments like a stack of pots beneath toddy trees, women animatedly chatting in fields, or the excitement of festival-goers, transform into subjects worthy of artistic exploration and expression. Though a part of our cultural fabric for generations, melas can feel distant for urban audiences.

Rangeen prompts viewers to engage with and immerse themselves in this vibrant celebration of festivities and life.
