Sneaking into Memories

Darshan Sharma
Deputy Manager -Sales & Marketing, Adani Logistics

Darshan Sharma is a creative person who keeps the child alive by exploring new experiences and sneaking tastes of homemade butter.

One of my most cherished childhood memories is the warm hugs from my grandmother after returning home from summer vacations. Those moments felt like they would last forever, a comforting constant in my life. It is funny how time has a way of moving forward, and those endless moments eventually ended. Growing up in a joint family, I learnt the invaluable lesson that teamwork is essential. There's a certain ease that comes with knowing you have someone who always has your back, ready to support you through thick and thin.

This sense of wonder often comes from a childlike perspective, and I occasionally indulge in doodling in my diary to keep that creative spark alive. It is amazing how a simple act of drawing can unlock innovative ideas and perspectives.

I still follow many traditions from my childhood that bring a sense of continuity and comfort to my daily routine. I start the day with the Karagre Vaste Lakshmi Stotra, looking at my palm as I recite the prayer. This small act sets a positive tone for the day ahead. Before leaving for the office, I perform a pooja, seeking blessings and guidance. And there is a charming habit I have held onto – always saying "aata hu"(I am coming) instead of “jaata hu” (I am leaving) when leaving the house. It is a subtle reminder that I'll be back, a promise of return.

These traditions and memories are more than just routines; they connect my past with my present. They remind me of where I come from and the values that have shaped me into who I am today.

I keep the child in me alive by staying curious and always wanting to do more. When these activities exhaust me, I like taking breaks, laughing aloud, and occasionally sneaking homemade butter when no one is around. If I could go back in time, I'd tell my childhood self to never stop dreaming but drop the idea of becoming a superhero to save the world – there are easier ways to do it. And yes, enjoy the naps. They become a luxury later.

The Crypto Quest

Subham Parida
Assistant Manager,Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd

Subham Parida discusses preserving the childlike wonder within by remaining inquisitive and adventurous. If Subham could traverse time, he would advise his younger self to embrace the unknown with confidence and even dabble in crypto (a playful jest for future Subham)!

I keep the child in me alive by staying curious and adventurous. I love indulging in outdoor games like cricket and classic household games such as Chor-police, Hide and Seek, and Pithu.

I would tell my younger self to embrace the unknown with confidence. It's perfectly fine not to have all the answers right away. Patience and persistence will pave the way for my dreams. Trust in the journey, study hard, and maybe even invest in crypto!

The most cherished childhood memories are the birthday parties, trips to my village, summer holidays, family trips, and annual school functions. These moments still bring a smile to my face every time I think about them.

My childhood has significantly influenced my career and personal life. I always dreamt of joining the armed forces, fascinated by weapons, ships, armoured tanks, and fighter planes. Although that dream did not come true, my love for mechanical systems led me to pursue engineering. The sheer will, persistence, and discipline I admired in the armed forces have been instrumental in my career, landing me an excellent job.

Play and creativity are crucial to my daily routine, especially in my approach to problem-solving at work. Whether it's coming up with new ideas or finding solutions to challenges, playfulness and creativity keep things exciting. Photography is my creative outlet, helping me unwind and keep that sense of creativity alive.

Though not exactly a ritual, one tradition from my childhood that I still follow is the annual family visit to Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, during the Ratha Yatra. Followed by a mandatory trip to the beaches of Puri. It's a cherished family getaway that I look forward to every year.

Social Dreams Realised

Apurva Patil
Project Officer, Community Health

Apurva Patil would tell her younger self to embrace quirks and leap into the unknown with gusto. Childhood was a kaleidoscope of cartoon marathons, sibling shenanigans, and heart-to-heart chats with their father. Inspired by their mother's tenacity in the education sector, her dreams in the social sphere took flight.

I would tell my younger self to always believe in yourself. You have so much potential, and it's okay to make mistakes along the way. Every challenge you face will make you stronger and wiser. Trust in your abilities. Most importantly, practice self-love. Be kind to yourself, celebrate your achievements, and learn from your setbacks. You are capable of amazing things, and you deserve to be happy and confident in who you are.

One of my most cherished childhood memories is the time spent with my younger brother, playing games and having deep discussions. Watching cartoons together, despite the occasional fights, we created special moments. Hanging out with my cousins, having group study sessions with friends, and playing outdoor games are memories that always bring a smile to my face. Additionally, the moments spent with my father, whether through deep conversations or simply spending time together, are precious and filled with love and joy.

Growing up in a middle-class family, I witnessed my parents' struggles, especially my mother's. She worked in the education sector. Watching my mother's perseverance and dedication inspired me to pursue my own education in the social sector. Her example motivated me to work hard and strive for success in both my career and personal life.

Weekend gatherings, a habit from childhood, continue as I spend weekends with friends. Living at my job location, my friend circle plays a key role in incorporating playfulness and creativity into my daily routine. Weekends are spent with friends, going trekking, celebrating festivals together, and engaging in various activities. Reading, drawing, and exploring new skills provide a creative outlet and inspire fresh ideas at work.

To keep the child in me alive, I engage in several hobbies and activities that bring back the joy and wonder of my childhood. Outdoor activities like cycling, hiking, and playing Ludo (we called it Champul in Marathi) remind me of the endless energy and excitement I had as a child. Dancing, drawing, painting, and crafting are activities that I loved as a kid and continue to enjoy. They allow me to express my creativity and imagination. Sometimes, I watch classic cartoons like Dragon Land, Ninja Hattori, and Franklin Turtle, which evoke a wonderful sense of nostalgia and happiness.

If I could say something about my childhood self, I would say keep dreaming big, even when the world tries to pull you down. Embrace the present, play with abandon, live life to the fullest, and always trust your instincts.

Cricket and Creativity

Rohan N
Assistant Manager, Adani Infra (India)

Rohan N’s childhood was filled with magical moments of playing cricket with cousins until sunset, teaching him the value of simple joys. Despite reaching the sky, he remains rooted in his culture.

One of my most cherished childhood memories is spending summers with my cousins, playing cricket in the neighborhood until the sunset. There was something magical about those long, sunny days—no deadlines, no worries, just endless exploration, and laughter. These moments remind me that even the simplest things can bring immense joy.

My childhood has profoundly shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally. It taught me to be kind to everyone and to tackle every situation with a smile. My early years not only molded my personality but also helped me build strong relationships with my loved ones.

Play and creativity are essential in everyone's life. They keep our minds and bodies active, banishing the monotony of daily routines. I play cricket at least once a week to stay physically and mentally fit. Every weekend, I infuse creativity into my life by experimenting with cooking.

Yes, Indians are known for their rich rituals and traditions, which we all cherish. From Sankranti to Diwali, each festival holds its own significance and customs. Being from Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka, these traditions played a vital role in my childhood. I still visit temples on festival days and relish Pongal during Sankranti.

Sketching Serenity

Chandani Samtani
Deputy Manager - Business Analyst-Group Data Governance and Control

For Chandani Samtani sketching has always been a serene escape that transports her back to the simplicity of childhood. Amidst the demands of a busy life, she finds peace in the act of creating, a reminder that the essence of her younger self remains vibrant.

Sketching has always been my sanctuary. Even now, amidst the hustle and bustle of adult life, I find solace in sketching. It is like a time machine that whisks me back to those carefree days. Creating something beautiful reminds me that the child in me is very much alive.

I would tell my younger self to cherish friendships. Those bonds formed over shared lunches and playground games are the treasures you will carry with you.

One memory that never fails to bring a smile to my face is from my 12th grade. I had secured the 2nd rank in school, and the moment my mother was called on stage with me to receive the award is etched in my heart forever. The pride in her eyes and the applause from the audience made me feel like I was on top of the world. It's a moment of pure joy and accomplishment that I will always cherish.

My childhood has been a guiding star in my career and personal life. It taught me to never stop dreaming and to work tirelessly towards those dreams. Dedication and consistency were lessons ingrained in me early on, and they continue to drive me to go beyond everything I do.

Incorporating playfulness and creativity into my daily routine is essential. I make it a point to explore unusual topics and delve into new areas of interest. It is like a mini adventure that keeps my mind sharp and my spirit curious.

One tradition that has stood the test of time is cooking together with my family on Sundays. It is not just about preparing a meal; it is more about bonding, and creating memories. The kitchen becomes a place where laughter and love are the main ingredients. This ritual is a beautiful reminder of the importance of family and the joy of doing things together.

As we celebrate Children's Day, these reflections from Adani employees remind us that the magic of childhood never truly fades. By nurturing their inner child through creativity, curiosity, and cherished traditions, they continue to find joy and inspiration in their everyday lives.
