Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL) in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a flight calibration of its Instrument Landing System (ILS) for Runway 26/08 on 12 Aug to 13 Aug 2024. This significant event marks a crucial step in preparing the instrument approach procedure and obtaining the necessary licensing for the operationalization of NMIA.
What is ILS?
ILS stands for Instrument Landing System and is a standard International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) precision landing aid that is used to provide accurate vertical and lateral guidance to aircraft for landing on the runway under normal or adverse weather conditions. ILS guides the aircraft to a position from where a safe landing on the runway can be executed.
AAI confirmed that the flight calibration of ILS for Runway 08 at NMIA was successfully completed. The calibration of runway 26 will be completed in the days to come.
