The Adani Foundation's impactful water conservation initiatives have led to full reservoirs and thriving communities. Residents and the Adani family alike have warmly welcomed the replenished water supplies in their reservoirs.
The Foundation's dedication to water conservation, augmentation, and management is truly remarkable. With favorable rains this year, the overflowing reservoirs in Kutch present a unique opportunity. The Foundation has launched extensive water preservation initiatives covering over 70 villages across the talukas of Mundra, Mandvi, Abdasa, Lakhpat, Rapar, Anjar, and Bhuj, focusing on activities such as borewell recharges, creating underground water storage tanks, and constructing new wells. This proactive approach is making a tangible difference in ensuring a sustainable water future for the region.
The recent heavy rainfall in Kutch has not only replenished lakes and reservoirs but has also boosted the morale of the local community. Villages such as Bidada in Mandvi taluka and Moti-Khakhar in Mundra taluka have commended the Adani Group for their efforts, recognising the admirable work of the Adani Foundation in water conservation. The Sarpanch of Bidada expressed appreciation to the Adani family and praised the outstanding contributions of the Adani Group. Additionally, the Sarpanch of Akri expressed optimism that the improvements to the lakes would address water scarcity issues for both livestock and domestic use.
The Foundation has undertaken extensive projects, including building new check dams, enhancing existing ones, deepening 93 ponds, constructing 385 underground tanks for roof water collection, and securing a drinking water storage capacity of 385,000 liters. Additionally, it has recharged 209 borewells and constructed 25 new borewell-injection wells in the Mundra region, enabling millions of liters of water to seep into the groundwater table.
In Abdasa taluka, extensive pond deepening, cleaning, repairs, and improvements were completed in five villages before the monsoon season. Village leaders, alongside officials from Adani Cement in Sanghipuram, celebrated the arrival of new waters in the reservoirs at Hothiaya village. The deepened pond there will support irrigation for 150 acres, ensure a drinking water supply for crops on 300 acres, and sustain over 3,000 cattle.
Water harvesting can alleviate many of the challenges faced by the community. When locals participate in these efforts, the outcomes are highly beneficial, promising prosperity for the region in the times ahead. The exemplary water conservation measures have significantly improved groundwater levels. Farmers have also contributed to this noble cause by recharging their wells and borewells. To address drinking water shortages, new wells have been constructed in villages like Khavda.
The motto Jal Hai To Kal Hai encapsulates the commendable efforts of the Adani Foundation, carried out with public collaboration to prevent rainwater from being lost to the sea.
