In the cold hours of 4 Jan 2025, the Adani Ports marine team displayed exceptional bravery and efficiency during a midnight rescue operation that saved the lives of five fishermen stranded at sea near Mundra. The incident occurred when the trawler boat Nure Shakur, originating from Salaya in Devbhoomi Dwarka, began sinking due to a critical malfunction near the West Port SPM (Single Point Mooring) area.
The Incident Unfolds
Around midnight, while the Adani Ports team was engaged in routine port operations, a distress call was received. The trawler boat Nure Shakur had developed a malfunction and was rapidly taking on water. The five fishermen aboard, identified as Bhaya Siddiq Musa, Sanghar Mehbubbhai Dauvbhai, Agaria Walimamad Husen, Chaba Ajij Kasam, and Bhokal Akbarbhai Ilyas, all residents of Salaya, were in grave danger as the vessel started sinking.
The fishermen first reported the emergency to the boat owner, who then alerted the authorities. Realizing the severity of the situation, the police control room informed the Mundra Marine Police, who immediately contacted Adani Ports for quick action. The Adani Marine Control Room quickly mobilized their resources, dispatching rescue vessels Dolphin-38, KB-17 and KB-48, at 11:45 PM.
The Rescue Operation
The KB-17 rescue boat was the first to arrive at the site of the sinking vessel. The operation was fraught with challenges, including the dark, cold night and the risk of the sinking trawler capsizing entirely. Despite these dangers, the Adani Marine team acted swiftly and decisively, reaching the distressed fishermen by 12:30 AM.
All five fishermen were successfully pulled from the sinking trawler and transferred to safety. Shortly after the rescue, the Nure Shakur completely submerged in the sea. The Marine Police, who had also dispatched an interceptor boat from the Mundra Port’s RORO terminal, assisted in transferring the rescued fishermen to their boat and safely escorted them to Mundra shore.
A Lifesaving Effort
The timely response by the Adani Marine team and the coordination with the Mundra Marine Police proved critical in averting a tragedy. The fishermen, who had set out for a routine fishing trip, found themselves in a life-threatening situation but were saved thanks to the rapid and efficient efforts of the rescue teams.
Once ashore, the rescued fishermen expressed deep gratitude to Adani Ports and the Marine Police for their heroic actions. They credited the quick thinking and seamless coordination of the rescue operation with saving their lives.
