Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd, has set new benchmarks in aviation excellence. In fiscal year 2024–25, the airport experienced an unprecedented phase of growth, marked by surging passenger volumes, strategic infrastructural upgrades and global accolades, firmly positioning itself as a rising aviation hub in western India.

A Year of Unprecedented Growth

Between 1 Apr 2024 and 31 Mar 2025, SVPI Airport welcomed 13,427,697 passengers, representing a robust 14.8% increase over the previous year’s total of 11.7 million. This growth solidifies Ahmedabad’s role not just as a destination but as a crucial transit point in India's aviation landscape. Domestic traffic remained dominant with over 11 million flyers, while international passengers exceeded 2.2 million, highlighting the city’s expanding global connectivity.

This momentum was further accentuated by several global and national events hosted in Ahmedabad, which drove peak travel days. On 25 Jan 2025, the airport witnessed its highest-ever footfall and aircraft movements—48,137 passengers and 351 flights, shattering the previous record set in Nov 2023.

On an average day, the airport now handles over 36,800 passengers and 288 flights, connecting to 48 domestic and 16 international destinations. The surge in demand has also translated into a 16.2% increase in air traffic movements (ATMs)—from 87,025 in FY 2023–24 to 101,119 in FY 2024–25.

Infrastructure & Technology: Scaling with Strategy

To accommodate this rapid expansion, SVPI Airport has executed a series of strategic infrastructure enhancements:

  • Five new aircraft parking stands have been added.
  • A Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) has been implemented at existing aerobridges, optimising apron space.

These developments reflect a deliberate approach to future-proofing the airport’s capabilities in line with increasing passenger volumes.

Complementing the physical upgrades are significant technological innovations aimed at operational excellence and elevated passenger experience:

  • Robotic Cleaning Systems: Deployment of smart cleaning robots across terminals enhances hygiene and efficiency.
  • Self-Baggage Drop Machines: More kiosks mean faster check-in and shorter queues.
  • Digital Immigration Solutions: Launch of the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) and Digi Yatra at Terminal 2 has streamlined border control processes.
  • Expanded Terminal 2 Check-in Hall: The new facility offers a spacious, comfortable environment for international travellers.

Passenger Experience Reimagined

SVPI Airport has gone beyond efficiency to focus on traveller comfort and convenience, introducing new services and amenities:

  • Free Wi-Fi Coupon Kiosks: Specifically for non-Indian SIM card holders to stay connected.
  • Electric Shuttle Buses: Eco-friendly inter-terminal transport ensures seamless transfers.
  • Udaan Yatri Café: A welcoming space in Terminal 1, part of an expanded F&B and retail landscape that caters to diverse needs.

Growing Network, Greater Reach

Route expansion played a vital role in FY 2024–25’s success. New domestic destinations include Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Nanded, Kolhapur, Dimapur, and Kishangarh. On the international front, new links to Don Mueang (Bangkok), Kuala Lumpur and Da Nang have strengthened Ahmedabad’s global access. Increased flight frequencies to Delhi, Jeddah, Don Mueang, Kuwait, Kolkata, Kochi and Abu Dhabi reflect the airport’s responsiveness to evolving passenger needs.

Moreover, the airport has enhanced regional accessibility through a direct GSRTC bus service to Vadodara, offering convenient connectivity for travellers from neighbouring cities.

Recognition and Responsibility

SVPI Airport's commitment to safety, sustainability and service excellence has not gone unnoticed. A slew of prestigious recognitions in FY 2024–25 underline its achievements:

  • ACI Level 3 Accreditation
  • Greentech EHS Global Award – 2024
  • Greentech PCWR Awards 2024
  • SEEM Platinum Award – 2024
  • Certificate of Merit at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2024
  • Greentech Global Workplace Safety Award – 2024
  • Multiple honours at the 25th INSSAN Event

Perhaps most impressively, the airport clocked 10 million incident-free work hours, a testament to rigorous safety protocols, ongoing staff training and a culture of vigilance and care.

As the aviation sector in India continues to surge, SVPI Airport’s forward-thinking leadership and integrated approach to growth, sustainability and customer service set a compelling example. With eyes set firmly on the future, the airport is not just managing traffic—it is shaping the journey of tomorrow.
