Twin Engines Of Growth
With the inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport, Mumbai is poised to become India’s first city to operate a fully integrated twin-airport system.

The Adani Group’s Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) marks a defining leap in India’s aviation infrastructure. Developed with a total projected investment of over INR 20,750 crore, NMIA will operate in strategic complementarity with the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA)—also managed by the Adani Group—creating India’s first twin-airport ecosystem. This model, already proven in global aviation hubs like London and New York, ensures Mumbai’s continued dominance as India’s premier international gateway. And Delhi is likely to jump on that bandwagon soon, with the inauguration of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
When fully operational, NMIA will handle 20 million passengers annually in its final phase, adding to CSMIA’s existing capacity of 55 million passengers per year. Together, the two airports will serve over 75 million passengers, relieving pressure on Mumbai’s congested airspace and offering seamless connectivity for both domestic and international travelers.
Seamless Connectivity Across Air, Land and Sea
NMIA’s location in Ulwe places it at the confluence of some of India’s most advanced transport corridors. The airport will be directly linked to South Mumbai via the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), cutting travel time to just 20 minutes. It will also connect with the Navi Mumbai Metro, suburban rail networks, the Sion-Panvel Expressway and upcoming water transport terminals, forming a multimodal mobility grid unmatched by any other Indian city.
The Adani Group’s design philosophy for NMIA emphasises not just convenience but resilience and sustainability. The airport will feature state-of-the-art digital air traffic coordination systems, smart passenger processing and renewable energy integration aligned with the Group’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030 across its airports business.
Decongesting the Skies, Elevating the Experience
CSMIA currently handles over 900 flight movements per day, ranking among the busiest single-runway airports in the world. NMIA’s commissioning will immediately ease congestion, enable better slot management and reduce flight delays. Airlines will gain flexibility to distribute operations between the two hubs—domestic and international, long-haul and short-haul—leading to faster turnarounds and enhanced operational efficiency.
The twin-airport model will also support the expansion of cargo capacity to over 2 million tonnes (MT) annually, reinforcing Mumbai’s leadership as India’s logistics capital and connecting new global trade corridors through Adani’s integrated port-air network. Initially, NMIA will handle 0.5 MT.
Catalyst for Regional Growth
Beyond aviation, NMIA is poised to transform the economic landscape of the MMR. The project is expected to generate more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs, while stimulating ancillary growth in logistics, real estate, hospitality and urban infrastructure. The Adani Group’s vision for NMIA extends beyond terminals and runways—it aims to anchor a world-class aerotropolis, driving sustainable growth for decades.
Together, NMIA and CSMIA exemplify the Adani Group’s commitment to building infrastructure for a self-reliant, connected India. The twin-airport advantage will not only redefine how Mumbai flies—it will reshape how India moves, trades and grows in the global era.
