Runway Pause for Tradition

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport halts operations for the grand Arattu procession. In a rare confluence of faith and aviation, the runway at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport operated by Adani, came to a scheduled halt on 30 Oct 2025 from 16:45 to 21:00, to honour the centuries-old Alpashi Festival.

One of Kerala’s most revered traditions, the festival’s climactic event—the Arattu procession—makes its way from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple to Shanghumugham Beach, crossing the airport’s runway en route. Led by the head of the Travancore Royal Family, sword in hand, the spectacle features caparisoned elephants, mounted police and rows of armed guards, watched by thousands of devotees who line the streets.

The temporary closure reflects how Adani Airports embraces India’s living heritage—where devotion, history and modern infrastructure coexist in perfect harmony.
