On National Doctors' Day, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport honoured its medical professionals by introducing a dedicated medical scooter fleet, helping doctors reach patients faster when every second counts.
What happens when an emergency strikes in a place as vast as a bustling airport terminal and the difference between recovery and tragedy rests on a matter of minutes? At Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), operated by Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL), that question met a practical answer on National Doctors' Day, observed on 1 July 2026. Rather than letting the occasion end with speeches and symbolic mementos, the airport's medical personnel took charge of a custom-built fleet of Booz Electric Kick Scooters and deployed them into active service.
The initiative, named 'AeroMedics on Wheels', sets a quiet precedent across Indian aviation infrastructure — it is the first programme of its kind at any domestic airport. The timing of the rollout reflects a simple institutional belief: the most fitting tribute to a doctor is not rhetoric but the means to reach a patient appreciably faster.

A Race Against Distance
Behind every check-in counter lies a distance that can decide a patient's outcome. CSMIA operates less like a conventional transit hub and more like a high-density round-the-clock ecosystem of its own. Handling millions of passengers every month across expansive check-in halls, security checkpoints and long boarding piers, its medical team routinely addresses a wide spectrum of cases — from travel fatigue to acute cardiac and neurological emergencies. Terminal 2 alone houses three distinct medical facilities, strategically placed across concourses separated by significant walking distances. Within an environment engineered for passenger throughput, one operational challenge persisted: the physical gap between an emergency call and a clinician actually reaching the patient's side.

In cases of acute cardiac arrest, clinical survival odds fall rapidly with every unassisted minute and the sheer scale of a major international gateway meant that standard foot response was perpetually working against the clock. "At an airport such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where passenger volumes are high and operational areas are spread across a vast footprint, every minute can make a significant difference in patient outcomes," Dr More said.

Engineering Purpose-Built Electric Mobility
A scooter re-engineered from the ground up to move like an emergency responder should.
To meet the demands of a bustling international terminal, Booz Mobility — founded in Ahmedabad in 2017 by automotive engineer Rutvij Dasadia,adapted its existing micro-mobility platforms into specialised emergency transit units. Standard commercial scooters proved unsuited to CSMIA's strict indoor operational requirements, so the engineering team built the fleet around a set of practical purpose-driven features:
- Zero exhaust fumes: fully electric motors run clean, keeping the air inside a busy passenger terminal breathable.
- Instant pick-up: the motor delivers an immediate push the moment the throttle is engaged, so responders start moving without delay.
- Stable, manoeuvrable build: a lower standing platform and a wider wheelbase give the scooters extra stability and a tight turning radius, letting staff weave around trolleys and queues with ease.
- Quiet warning signals: bright built-in flashing lights on the frame — not sirens — signal passengers to step aside without triggering alarm.
- Round-the-clock readiness: high-capacity batteries and fast charging keep the fleet in continuous shift-long service, always ready for the next call.
Collaborative Innovation in Action
Two organisations found common purpose in solving a shared high-stakes challenge.
This collaboration reflects a considered alignment of institutional vision and domestic engineering capability. CSMIA evaluated multiple international suppliers before selecting Booz Mobility, a decision shaped largely by the firm's willingness to adapt its vehicle architecture directly to the procedural workflow and equipment needs of emergency medical staff. Dr More, who was closely involved in that selection, recalls it plainly: "We had shortlisted a few companies internationally as well, but Booz Mobility matched the standards, customised to our needs." For a condition where outcomes are measured in seconds, he frames the choice in clinical terms rather than commercial ones. "Every second matters in medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest," he says. "Survival odds fall sharply with every minute of delay and irreversible damage can begin within minutes."

Redefining First-Response Clinical Standards
What began as a Doctors' Day gesture may soon shape emergency care well beyond CSMIA.
With AeroMedics on Wheels fully folded into the terminal's operational framework, CSMIA's clinical personnel can now work within tighter emergency response windows than before. Dr More points to improved first-response times, faster on-site assessment and stabilisation and seamless coordination with tarmac ambulances as the direct clinical gains of the initiative.
As the model proves itself across CSMIA's concourses, Mr Dasadia anticipates its application extending to industrial complexes, institutional medical campuses and corporate parks nationwide.
For Adani Airport Holdings, the deployment of these custom-engineered scooters demonstrates how deliberate purpose-built innovation can strengthen passenger safety — turning crisis response into a swift well-coordinated discipline rather than a race against unfamiliar ground.
