Handling 21,085 TEUs on MSC AMBRA, Mundra Port has showcased its scale, operational excellence and growing capability to manage some of the world’s largest container vessels.

Adani Ports and SEZ's flagship Mundra Port has set a new national record by handling 21,085 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) on a single vessel, MSC AMBRA, the highest-ever container volume handled on one vessel at an Indian port.

The milestone reinforces Mundra Port’s position at the forefront of India’s maritime growth story and demonstrates its ability to handle some of the world’s largest container vessels with scale, precision and efficiency.

The achievement surpasses the previous benchmark of 16,569 TEUs, set by MSC LIVORNO in January 2024. The Mundra Port team exceeded the earlier figure by 4,516 TEUs, representing an increase of approximately 26.9%.

A Record-breaking Operation

MSC AMBRA is among the largest container vessels operating globally. Measuring 400 metres in length and 61.54 metres in width, the vessel is nearly as long as four football fields placed end to end. Its displacement of 256,228 metric tonnes reflects its enormous scale and the sophisticated infrastructure required to accommodate a vessel of this magnitude.

At the time of arrival, the vessel had a forward draft of 15.10 metres and an aft draft of 15.15 metres, highlighting Mundra Port’s deep-draft marine infrastructure and operational readiness.

The successful operation was the result of meticulous planning and seamless coordination across teams. Detailed pre-arrival preparations, precise berth allocation, strategic crane deployment, real-time yard management and cargo coordination ensured the complex operation was executed smoothly.

Mundra Port’s advanced terminal infrastructure, modern cargo-handling equipment and data-driven systems, supported by an experienced workforce, were instrumental in handling record container volume safely and efficiently.

The milestone is a testament to Mundra Port’s operational excellence and Adani Ports’ commitment to building world-class maritime infrastructure. As vessels grow larger and global trade expands, Mundra Port’s ability to handle ultra-large container ships strengthens India’s position as a competitive and increasingly important hub for global trade.
